Get Sustainable Freight Right
SUFA’s 2026 Local Election Manifesto
Over 130 local authorities will be going to election in May 2026. Our 2026 Manifesto calls for local governments across the country to make real commitments to accelerating the transition to clean, efficient urban freight.
What is the opportunity?
Accelerating sustainable urban freight is an immediate - often untapped - opportunity for local governments. With the right policies and investment, councils can reduce congestion and idling, improve air quality, make roads safer and achieve decarbonisation targets whilst keeping deliveries reliable and supporting economic growth. Without intervention, councils risk exacerbating traffic, worsening air quality, reducing logistics productivity and failing to meet our climate commitments
Why is change needed?
Deliveries keep our towns and cities moving. They support local businesses, enable residents to access goods and services, and underpin the everyday functioning of the local economy. But the way deliveries happen on our streets is changing fast. With rising demand, constrained kerb space and the transition to low and zero-emission vehicles, our local transport networks and the people who use them are experiencing both new challenges and opportunities.
SUFA 2026 Manifesto
Our manifesto sets out clear commitments for councils and combined authorities to adopt to accelerate sustainable, low and zero-emission last-mile freight. Our asks are designed to be actionable and relevant to core local government powers across policy, budget and land.
